I got quoted in a Budget Travel article about Ghetto Gourmet. I'm reasonably certain I had something far more insightful to say than "It's great," but then again we had polished off a bottle before I spoke to the writer, so I'm just glad she didn't write "...slurred Ray Aguilera."
I love the Ghet, although unfortunately price-creep is forcing me to think twice before signing up for recent dinners. Used to be the Ghet beat a meal at a restaurant on price as well as "experience." Now most meals seem to be hitting $50 a head. While the experience of Ghetto Gourmet is certainly singular and can't be rivaled in a traditional restaurant, the price is getting dangerously close (or higher, even) to any number of really great restaurants.
It's not that the Ghet isn't worth the money, just that when the prices are on par with those of acclaimed restaurants, people come to the table expecting a certain kind of experience. I wonder if that's going to necessitate a fundamental change in the vibe and atmosphere of a Ghetto dinner.
