Last week, NPR did a story on the quest for the Holey Grail, a trans-fat free donut. Voodoo Donuts, birthplace of said donut was also the birthplace of the bacon-maple bar, which was also on my "to eat" list in Portland.
I'm not a huge donut fan, but a firm believer that a little bacon is always a good thing. So, of course I had to make a trip to Voodoo.
The verdict?
Bacon-maple bars are genius! As for the rest of the donuts..they were donuts. If you're a donut fan, you'll love them. And if you're donut-ambivalent, then they taste like donuts. The ones with cereal on them are kind of gross, owing mostly to the fact that cereal goes stale really, really fast. I appreciate Voodoo's creativity, but unfortunately their voodoo doesn't extend to the half-life of cereal products.
